What is Dysport?
Dysport or British Botox is the trade name for the extract ‘Botulinum Toxin. Botulinum toxin A, produced in England by Dysport, is commonly used for facial reshaping, wrinkles, tightening and blurring the face. It is just as effective as other brands of botulinum toxin.
What is this injection used for?
Dysport is often injected to treat spasms in the neck muscles, a condition known as cervical dystonia. Dysport injections are also used for the treatment of muscle spasticity in the lower and upper limbs. You can also use Dysport for the treatment of glabellar lines. Doctors may also use it to treat bilateral or unilateral blepharospasm, hemifacial spasm, and axillary hyperhidrosis.
Dosage
• Cervical dystonia
For treatment of patients suffering from cervical dystonia, the initial dose given is of 500 units; however, in some cases, modification of the dose is necessary. Follow-up treatments should be scheduled a minimum of 12 weeks apart. The effects may last up to 16 weeks or longer.
• Glabellar lines
For correcting glabellar lines, the recommended dose of Dysport is a total of 50 units, with 10 units injected into each of the 5 recommended areas. This treatment can be repeated every 3 months, as needed.
• Upper limb spasticity
For this, the dosage is based on the number of muscles needing treatment, the intensity of spasticity, and the effects of previous injections on the patient. It is advised not to exceed the dosage by 1,500 units. The treatment can be repeated every 12 weeks, as needed.
Dysport Before and After
